A Possible Trip Alteration
Last evening while sitting listening to Boris, our cruise activity director, we were given a heads up that there was a 50% chance that we would be changing boats somewhere along the way. It sounds like the river levels are too low somewhere between Regensburg and Nuremburg for our boat to pass through. We may be bussed ahead and board another Viking boat to continue our journey. We suspect that a boat coming the other way will turn around as will ours. They tell us that if it happens it will be seamless. We will not know that we are on a different boat as they are exactly the same. That part is true...but... we will have to 'break in' another crew of staff...just when they had gotten to know us and we could see their individual personalities. If history repeats that should only take us one evening...at least for the lounge staff! Later today the decision is going to be made.
We arrived in Germany today in Passau. Passau is at the confluence of 3 rivers, the Danube, the Inn, and the Ilz. Theses 3 rivers are famous for their 3 distinct colours as they come together. Unfortunately we were unable to actually see the difference. It was raining the whole time we were here! However, we still enjoyed our walking tour of the city. Once again our guide was a wealth of information with a pretty good sense of humor. And imagine, we were able to tour another cathedral...named after the same guy as the one we toured in Vienna, St. Stephen. This one was probably bigger than the one in Vienna and definitely fancier. I am tired of using the word 'opulent'.
By 2:00 our boat was departing leaving some of the passengers behind just like yesterday in Melk. They will catch up to us by bus later this afternoon. The logistics behind these cruises is quite amazing!
Now for the 'elephant in the room'. We have 2nd hand information that we will be changing boats. And as we suspected we will be flipping passengers with one that is coming towards us. Packing will be necessary. But more concerning will be having to meet new staff after just starting to enjoy the personalities on this boat.
We will find out for sure when and if this happens this evening at the daily briefing/pre dinner drink time!
