The Decision
Last evening we were informed that we would be unable to get through the Regensburg area. Water levels are too low to safely navigate. Only 7 inches but it might as well be 7 feet! Yesterday we turned around and returned to Passau.
So the plan is that everyone is being bused to Regensburg this morning for the planned excursions. Sue has just left. I have decided to stay behind with a handful of other people, all of which make me feel young. However, I have come down with a cold. I suspect that these 'old' people have more energy than I do today. When I got up this morning, I felt like a bus had hit me, stopped, backed up and ran over me again. I am hoping that a day of rest with some drugs will do me good and set me up for the continuation of the adventure tomorrow.
As for the transition to get us onto another boat, that is a little bit more complicated than we were led to believe. Imagine that! The buses left for Regensburg at 8:30 am. The ride will take 1 hour 45 minutes. Sue has a 2 1/2 hour tour. The bus does not leave Regensburg until 3:30 pm for the return journey. I sure hope Regensburg has lots of things to see and do.
We spend the night again on our boat here in Passau. Then at 8:00 am we have to be packed and on the bus for our trip to Nuremburg. It is about a 3 hour journey by road. Our new boat will be waiting for us when we arrive. At least lunch will be. They are not guaranteeing that the rooms will be ready. We originally had 2 excursions planned in Nuremburg. But due to our later arrival they now conflict with each other. A decision has to be made as to which one we want to take, not an ideal situation. But...due to the number of boats that Viking has, we will be able to continue on the other side. We have been told that Viking is the only company that can pivot like this. The other companies that are doing this, at least half a dozen that we have encountered, can't do it. We suspect their journey is over. That would really suck!
Sue will keep you up to date later after she returns. She is not aware of that yet, but she will get over it!
Stay tuned!
